About Us
Who We Are
The Bamendjou Association of Houston brings together the sons, daughters and friends of Bamendjou, a Bamiléké kingdom in the West Region of Cameroon, who live in Houston and the surrounding area.
The association is registered in Texas as a nonprofit corporation and is run by an Executive Board elected by its members. Its general assembly meets every month. Members support one another through life's joys and hardships and pass the traditions of Bamendjou on to children growing up far from home.
Our emblem carries the three words that sum up who we are: Solidarity, Development, Unity.

Our mission
To unite the sons, daughters and friends of Bamendjou living in Houston and its surroundings, to support one another in times of joy and hardship, and to preserve and pass on the culture, values and traditions of Bamendjou.
Our vision
A strong and united Bamendjou community in Houston: proud of its roots, well organized, caring for every member, and a respected partner in the development of Bamendjou and of the communities where we live.
What we do
- Bring members together every month in a democratic and respectful general assembly.
- Stand by members and their families at life's important moments: births, weddings and bereavement.
- Preserve and celebrate the customs and traditions of Bamendjou and pass them on to our children.
- Organize cultural and family events, such as our year-end celebration and our summer beach picnic.
- Welcome our traditional authorities and take part in great cultural events such as the Chepan.
- Build friendships with the other Cameroonian and African associations of Houston.
